Russia Postal Address and Postal Code Formatting Requirements

The speed and accuracy of postal delivery depend on the correct spelling of address details. Adhering to address and postal code formatting rules ensures efficient mail processing through Russian Post's network.
Language Requirements
The sender and recipient addresses of postal items (including postal money orders) accepted for delivery within the Russian Federation must be indicated in Russian.
For postal items sent within republics in the Russian Federation, addresses may be indicated in the official language of the respective republic, provided they are repeated in Russian.
For international mail, addresses must be written in Latin letters and Arabic numerals. It is permissible to write the address in the language of the destination country, provided that the name of the destination country is repeated in Russian.
Address Placement on Mail Items
The recipient's address is written in the lower right-hand corner of the postal item, and the sender's address is written in the upper left-hand corner. The address must be written clearly and without corrections, and it must not contain any non-address characters or abbreviations.
Order of Address Details
The address details on postal items and money order forms must be written in the following order:
a) For a legal entity – full or short name; for a citizen – last name, first name, patronymic
b) Bank details (for postal transfers sent to or received from a legal entity)
c) Street name, house number, apartment number
d) Name of the locality (city, town, village, etc.)
e) Name of the district
f) The name of the republic, territory, region, autonomous okrug (region)
g) Name of the country (for international postal items)
h) Postal code
Special Address Types

On demand (General Delivery): With the name of the postal service facility, the last name, first name, and patronymic of the addressee indicated on the postal item or the postal money order form.
To a post office box: With the name of the postal service facility, the number of the post office box, the last name, first name, and patronymic of the addressee, or the full name of the legal entity indicated on the postal item or the postal money order form.
Writing Address Information
All address information must be written legibly in ink or printed using a typewriter or other printing equipment. We recommend that you write your address information in block letters.
The postal code is an integral part of address data. If you don't know or are unsure of the accuracy of the destination postal code, check it at your local post office or on the Russian Post website.
Please note that on letters and postcards with a code stamp, the addressee's postal code is filled in with stylized numbers in ink of any color except red, yellow, and green.
